GIGASYNC MANUAL
VER. 3 REV. 1
While the GDT does not act even when the voltage is rising rapidly, as it takes time to ionize the gas it contains, the TVS
quickly goes into protection with a faster response. This device has high reliability as it contains solid state elements.
Short circuit protection
The GigaSync has short circuit protection in every port on every cartridge, both on the PoE and the terminal ports.
This protection works as follows:
If there is a short circuit on the connected load, the GigaSync will turn off the port to protect itself so as not to damage the
device. After a few seconds it reactivates the door, always with the protection active; if the short circuit is still present then
the protection trips again and will continue without powering the load until the situation normalizes, retrying every few
seconds and indefinitely.
If in any of the attempts GigaSync finds the normalized situation, it will turn on the port and power the load as it normally
does.
Some devices require a large amount of current when turned on, activating short circuit protection. The GigaSync will
automatically retry after a few seconds. On the second try, this required current is usually less so the initial problem
disappears and the GigaSync will feed it correctly.
Galvanic isolation between LAN and PoE
The GigaSync has a PoE transformer on each port, which provides 1500 volt isolation between primary and secondary on
all four pairs of structured PoE cables.
This type of magnetic insulation of the PoE transformer prevents the propagation of a short circuit generated on the data
cable side and also protects against overvoltages, avoiding the passage of emissions conducted up to the insulation
voltage. Adding to the GigaSync, another strong point in terms of protections and making it one of the most complete on
the market.
Gigabit injector GS-G-POE
The main function of the PoE injector of this device is to allow the power of other equipment on the network. GigaSync
PoE injector cartridges are passive injectors.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Unlike active PoE, passive PoE does not use any protocol to determine the type of device to power. It simply applies
a type of voltage to its port without identifying what type of PoE standard or power supply voltage connected to
the load is compatible with. Using an unsuitable voltage and/or wrong pinout can cause irreparable damage to the
powered device.
This cartridge does not provide the sync pulse. Only use for radios that do not require synchronization over power.
It is possible to power a wide range of devices that accept different voltages, as this cartridge essentially replicates the
voltage from the power terminals to the PoE output ports without applying any conversion.
This gives us great versatility when connecting several PoE devices in the same infrastructure since it is possible to power
each cartridge with a different voltage than the rest.
In addition to supporting different voltages, the PoE injector has the possibility of selecting the pinout of the PoE output
ports, and inserting a simple key, called the GigaKey, thus allowing powering a wide range of devices on the market.
To find out if your PoE device can be powered via GigaSync, simply check the pinout that GigaKey allows you to select and
make sure it matches the input pinout of your equipment
