Connecting a Laptop to a 3VR SmartRecorder
Option 1: Logging in with a laptop and USB network service adapter
There are two methods for connecting a laptop to a 3VR system for configuration and maintenance:

Disable all laptop wireless network adapters by

launching the
Network Connections
dialog from
the Windows control panel. Right-click on your
Wireless Network Connection and select
Disable
.
Verify that the laptop is set to DHCP: Double-click

Local Area Connection. In the resulting window,
click the
Properties
button. In the
Local Area
Connection Properties
window, select Internet
Protocol TCP/IP and click
Properties
. Make sure that
Obtain an IP address automatically
is selected.
Disable any Windows or third-party firewalls and all virus, adware, or spyware detection software running on

the laptop.
Plug the USB Network Service Adapter into a USB port on the 3VR system.

Connect an Ethernet cable from the adapter to the laptop Ethernet port.

Power on the 3VR and wait for the USB Network Service Adapter to negotiate and assign addresses (about a

minute).
When a network connection has successfully been created, the green status lights on the adapter will be
illuminated.
When addresses have been assigned, the Local Area
Connection icon in the laptop system tray will display
a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, reading
Limited/No Connectivity
. This is expected, and
indicates the connection process is complete. Note
that it can take up to two minutes for the connection
to be established.
Launch 3VR SystemManager.
