This chapter contains details of the features that assist you with status
monitoring and statistics. It covers the following topics:
■
Roving Analysis Port
■
RMON
For detailed descriptions of the Web interface operations and the
Command Line Interface (CLI) commands that you require to manage the
Switch please refer to the Management Interface Reference Guide
supplied in HTML format on the CD-ROM that accompanies your Switch.
Roving Analysis
Port
Roving analysis is a system that allows you to attach a network analyzer
to one port and use it to monitor the traffic of other ports on the Switch.
The system works by enabling you to define an analysis port (the port
that is connected to the analyzer), and a monitor port (the port that is to
be monitored). Once the pair are defined, and you start monitoring, the
Switch takes all the traffic going in and out of the monitor port and
copies it to the analysis port.
Roving analysis is used when you need the functions of a network
analyzer, but do not want to change the physical characteristics of the
monitored segment by attaching an analyzer to that segment.
Roving Analysis and
Your Switch
Roving analysis is supported in:
■
a standalone Switch 4400 (24-port) unit
■
a single Switch 4400 (24-port) unit within a stack of Switch 4400 units
■
a standalone Switch 4400 (48-port) unit
