DEFINITIONS

CTCSS
CTCSS (CTCSS = Continuous Tone Code Squelch System) is a low frequency sub audio
tone working as a filter. If you and your other hunting radio users are using the same radio
channel and the same CTCSS one, you will avoid hearing other users on this channel (not
using the same CTCSS tone as you). There are 39 different CTCSS tones covering the
frequency range 67 - 254 Hz.
¢
Monitor
The Monitor function is used to listen to weak signals/ transmissions. When activated, the
squelch control is disabled, and noise and radio traffic is heard in the loudspeaker.
¢
Squelch
The squelch is used to prevent noise and other unwanted signals from reaching
the
loud-
speaker in the radio. The squelch level can be set in 15 steps. step 1 is the most sensitive,
allowing weak signals to reach the loudspeaker, while Step 15 requires a strong signal for
this. The low level(s) also gives maximum communication range. The high level(s) gives
less noise and reduced communication range.
¢
VOX
VOX (Voice Operated Control) is a speech control giving the possibility to transmit without
using the radio PTT. The VOX sensitivity can be set in 15 different sound levels. Level 1
means low sensitivity, i.e. a strong voice is needed to operate the transmitter, while level
15 is high sensitivity, and the radio will start transmitting from a low voice level. Be aware
that the radio will transmit each time a voice level above the set VOX level is received. You
should therefore only use this function when needed.
