Towers
ZipGrow™ Towers should be cleaned in between grow cycles. This can be easily done by using a
rough brush on the matrix media to scrub off any roots, algae, or debris that may have
accumulated. Every 4 - 6 months, the matrix media can also be soaked in a cleaning solution (ie.
weak bleach solution, or household hydrogen peroxide. Please DO NOT mix bleach and H202),
and then thoroughly rinsed. A brush and/or cloth can also be used to clean off any
accumulations on the interior or face of the Towers.
Reservoir and Drip Tray
Before cleaning the reservoir, ensure that your pumps are turned off as operating without
any water can reduce the lifespan. Then, simply remove the reservoir through the
convenient bottom compartment door, and dispose of the remaining contents (Tip: feed
the remaining contents to your houseplants!). Next, thoroughly clean the reservoir using a
rough brush along with a cleaner of your choice (ie. weak bleach solution, or household
hydrogen peroxide). Finally, rinse the reservoir thoroughly before replacing it into your
ZipGarden™. While irrigation is at a halt, it is a great time to also wipe the drip line,
clean the drip tray, and empty any debris out of the mesh filter.
Note: It is normal for a thin film (resulting from algae, nutrients, and small debris) to develop on
various parts of the system (reservoir, drip tray, etc.) Spray with H2O2 to help clean these
elements
Wicking Strips
When you remove your plants from the Towers, there can be a lot of roots and other debris
present on the wicking strips. Instead of disposing of your strips for new ones, we have found a
simple yet effective way to clean the wicking strips so that they can be reused time and time
again.
Begin by laying a wicking strip horizontally out in front of you on a flat surface. Then, using a non-
serrated knife, scrape off each side of the strip to get rid of any roots, algae, and other debris.
Once cleaned of any large debris, the strips can be soaked in a cleaning solution (ie. weak bleach
solution, or household hydrogen peroxide). After soaking, thoroughly rinse the strips and hang
them to dry before reusing them in your Towers. Want to see us cleaning the strips in our farm?
