SNE2000G-P and SNE2000G-S

SNE2-A2-ZN13-10

Introduction

Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) refers to the use of Ethernet starting at the customer premises in
subscriber access networks. The family of EFM-based Network Extenders provide an extremely
flexible and easy to use solution for providing Ethernet based services to subscribers throughout
the service provider’s network.

SNE2000G provider and subscriber units can be used in a back to back deployment to provide a
point to point configuration. This allows broadband service providers to deploy single DSL lines
economically when required for low density geographical areas or during start-up mode. In
addition, the subscriber units terminate SHDSL lines from the IP DSLAM family of access
multiplexers, including the 12000 and 4000 Broadband Loop Carriers (BLCs) and SHDSL Mini
and Micro DSLAMs.

The use of the Provider unit for single SHDSL link deployments provides an easy upgrade path
for future multi port deployments, using IP based 12000 and 4000 BLCs. The subscriber unit can
remain in place so no changes are needed at the customer premises and the provider unit can be
swapped out for an IP-based 12000 or 4000 BLC. To protect investment in the provider units
they can be easily converted to subscriber units using the conversion kit and redeployed in the
service provider’s network.

Because the SNE2000G is fully DSL The Easy Way™ compliant, configuration requirements are
removed completely, allowing this device to be installed into the customer premises quickly. The
SNE2000G uses the DSL The Easy Way packet-based architecture for optimum throughput and
reliability.
