For Zenith, accuracy is the absolute priority.
To avoid any risk of the chronograph affecting
the accuracy of the time display, the El Primero
21 movement is equipped with a "double-chain
structure". This means that the time display and
chronograph each have their own completely
independent mechanism with its own barrel and
high frequency escapement. The chronograph
movement oscillates at an astonishing frequency
of 50 Hertz (360,000 vibrations per hour), while
the historic time display calibre oscillates at a
frequency of 5 Hertz (36,000 vibrations per hour).
