Preparing sterility
6.3.1 Attaching asepsis caps
For sterile use, the system can be equipped with resterilizable products. The asepsis sets available from
ZEISS contain various caps that can be sterilized in autoclaves.
CAUTION!
Risk of infection caused by contaminated asepsis caps and drapes
•
Only use sterile asepsis accessories and drapes suitable for the system
•
Clean, disinfect and sterilize asepsis accessories before each use. This
also applies to the first use after delivery.
6.3.2 Attaching the drapes
To ensure sterile covering of the system, it is also possible to use the single-use drapes.
NOTE
Risk of overheating
•
Never cover any ventilation openings.
•
If ventilation grids on the carrier arm covers are covered e.g. by
drapes, this may lead to overheating of the parts inside the carrier
arm and deactivation of the light source.
•
When attaching the sterile drapes, make sure there is enough slack in the drapes to
allow for movement of the microscope carrier and surgical microscope. It is especially
important that the drapes are completely loose around the handgrips. The surgeon
must be able to reliably operate the controls through the drape.

A drape adapter is needed for attaching the drape on Varioskop 230. For details, please
see Section 5.5.2.
