Control area
The control area is where the actual operation of
controllable components takes place.
The control area is subdivided into further subareas
(see Fig. 4-21):
(1)
Tabs
The user can call the desired component function
up via a
Tab
. Tabs are used to activate the desired
function, which is displayed in the control subarea.
Maximally six tabs per page are available.
(2)
Illumination channels
The buttons for reflected light (
RL illumination
)
and transmitted light (
TL illumination
) are located
on the right edge of the control area. The
Close
and
Open
buttons function like switches, i.e. the
shutter in the optical path of the microscope is
either open or closed. If there are no shutters, the
halogen or LED illuminators configured are
controlled directly. When no illuminator has been
configured, the control buttons will not appear.
(3)
Control
The control subarea contains control elements dependent on the button selected on the navigation
button bar or the tab.
(4)
Contrast Manager
The contrast manager constitutes the centerpiece of the operation efficiency concept employed in all
motorized Axio Imagers. With its help, the various contrast methods possible are set automatically and
reproducibly.
The contrast manager can be switched
ON
and
OFF
globally. The
Contrast
tab is not available when the
contrast manager has been switched off. If this is the case, no contrast can be selected and the
corresponding components are not set automatically.
If the contrast manager has been switched
ON
globally, it will be
active
whenever a contrast button has
been pushed. A transmitted-light contrast method that is dependent both on condenser and reflector
modules (e.g., DIC) can be selected both via the transmitted-light contrast button and via the reflector
position (by pressing the DIC TL analyzer position in the case of DIC).
If the contrast manager is
not active
, it can be activated both on the
Objectives
tab and the
Reflector
tab. On the
Objectives
page, the transmitted-light contrast methods plus fluorescence are available. On
the
Reflector
page, all the reflector-dependent contrast methods can be selected. This is of particular
interest when it comes to reflected-light methods.
Even though the
shutters
or illumination switches are integrated in the functionality of the contrast
manager, they can be operated independently.
