APPENDIX B: Updating Using an SD Card
Besides using the Web interface, it is also possible to update the firmware of the Z3-DM368-RPS using an SD
card. The process requires a Windows PC, an SD card, and the ZWriter tool (included with the RPS). The
process for updating via SD card is as follows:
(1)
Locate the img update file received from Z3 and copy it to your Windows computer.
(2)
Place an SD card into your computer.
(3)
Open the ZWriter Windows program provided by Z3.
(4)
Select the img file.
(5)
Specify your SD card as the location to write to.
*Note:
This will cause the specified location to be overwritten. There is no recovery once you hit
“Write Device.”
(6)
When ZWriter is finished, eject the SD card from your computer.
(7)
Place the SD card in the socket on the Z3-DM368-RPS.
(8)
Power on the system, viewing the terminal output via your PC.
(9)
You should be able to see the system updating the flash.
(10)
Once the update is complete, the system will automatically reboot.
(11)
Power off the Z3-DM368-RPS.
(12)
Remove the SD card
(This is important – otherwise another update will occur.).
(13)
Turn the system back on.
(14)
If a MFR version was used for the update, the MAC address resets to the default value. This can
cause an issue if the Z3-DM368-RPS is used with another Z3-DM368-RPS that also has reset values (if
two systems have the same MAC address on the network, behavior is unpredictable). If this is the
case, modify the MAC address to a unique value if a MFR image was used. This can be done within
u-boot with the command “setenv ethaddr {new MAC address value}”.
The update should then be finished.
