Wind Exposure

- For wind loads, the prefabricated tower scaffold has been calculated for a wind load of 0.1kN/m², in accordance with

BS1139-6:2014.

- This approximately equates to a working wind limit of 27 mph (43 kph / 12 meters per second). Above this limit, all

work must stop and the prefabricated tower scaffold dismantled.

- The weather forecast must be taken into account before use.

- As part of the risk assessment, wind conditions must be taken into account and reviewed regularly, depending on the

duration of the prefabricated tower scaffolds assembly on site.

- Beware of high winds in exposed, gusty or medium breeze conditions.

- Beware of open ended buildings, uncladded buildings and building corners, which can cause wind funnelling effects.

SAFETY FIRST

Tying In

Where shown on the corresponding scheme drawing, the prefabricated tower scaffold must be tied in to a suitable load

bearing structure (i.e. building) to prevent overturning. Tie loads, where applicable, are specified on the corresponding

scheme drawing.

When used, select and install anchors in concrete and masonry must be selected and installed in accordance with BS

8539. This prefabricated tower scaffold has been designed to be properly secured (when applicable) to a suitable

adjacent supporting structure capable of withstanding the forces that will be imposed upon it by the attachment of the

tower. Devices for securing the tower must be simultaneously rigid in both tension and compression and capable of

withstanding and transmitting the loads imposed by the tower to the supporting structure.

Use of prefabricated tower scaffolds for access to adjacent structures

The tower must be built on base plates and properly secured to an adjacent supporting structure to prevent movement

of the tower away from the structure at the point of access.

There must be no gap between the platform of the prefabricated scaffold tower and the place being accessed through

which a person, tools or materials could fall or partially fall or which could cause a person to trip.

The platform of the prefabricated scaffold tower and the surface onto which a person will step when accessing another

place must be at the same level. Means of protection must be removed only for the time and to the extent necessary to

gain access or egress or for the performance of a particular task and must be replaced as soon as practicable. The task

must not be performed while means of protection are removed unless effective compensatory measures are in place.

Provision must be made to prevent falls - not only from the prefabricated tower scaffold, but also from the adjacent

structure.

Handover of the prefabricated scaffold tower

If the prefabricated tower scaffold is to be assembled and left for a third-party to use on site, copies of this guide, the

corresponding scheme drawing, standard tower user guide and the design certificate must also be left. The Handover

Certificate (TDF-HC0001) shall be used as part of the handover from the assembler. Details required to complete this

certificate are to be found on the scheme drawing.

In accordance with BS1139-6:2014, the “Conditions for Safe Use” information shall be affixed to the base of the

prefabricated tower scaffold by means of the Scheme drawing and the Handover Certificate. They must be clearly

visible so that end users are aware of the conditions of safe use.
