PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
3-18
WARNING
EWA13210
New tires have a relatively low grip on the
road surface until they have been slightly
worn. Therefore, approximately 100 km
should be traveled at normal speed before
any high-speed riding is done.
TIP
For tires with a direction of rotation mark “1”:
• Install the tire with the mark pointing in the di-
rection of wheel rotation.
• Align the mark “2” with the valve installation
point.

DRIVE CHAIN SLACK
Checking the drive chain slack
WARNING
EWA13120
Securely support the vehicle so that there is
no danger of it falling over.
NOTICE
ECA13550
A drive chain that is too tight will overload
the engine and other vital parts, and one that
is too loose can skip and damage the swing-
arm or cause an accident. Therefore, keep
the drive chain slack within the specified lim-
its.
1. Shift the transmission into the neutral posi-
tion.
2. Check:
• Drive chain slack “a”
Out of specification
→
Adjust.
NOTICE
ECA20870
Improper drive chain slack will overload the
engine as well as other vital parts of the mo-
torcycle and can lead to chain slippage or
breakage. If the drive chain slack is more
than the specified limit, the chain can dam-
age the frame, swingarm, and other parts. To
prevent this from occurring, keep the drive
chain slack within the specified limits.
Recommended lubricant
Lithium-soap-based grease
