Playing Songs
Your digital piano can play built-in Preset Songs, User Songs that you have recorded, and commercially available
songs. These songs can be in one of two different formats—MIDI or audio.

User Songs and Import Songs
The term User Song is u sed to refer to songs recorded u sing
the instr u ment itself; those created in any other way are
referred to as Import Songs. Songs contained within a folder
named USER FILES on a USB flash dri
v e are designated as
User Songs and handled in the same way. Songs located
o
u tside this folder are handled as Import Songs. If the USB
flash dri v e pl u gged into the instr u ment contains no USER
FILES folder, one will b e created a u tomatically when yo u
record a song to that dri v e. The recorded User Song will
then b e sa v ed in that folder.
Supported song data formats
Standard MIDI File formats 0 and 1
Standard MIDI File (SMF) formats are the most commonly
u sed MIDI formats for storing seq u ence data. SMF format 0
is u sed for MIDI songs recorded u sing this instr u ment.
Waveform Audio File format
Identified b y a .wa v file extension, Wa v eform A u dio File For-
mat (WAV) is one of the most common formats u sed b y
comp u ters to record a u dio data. Yo u r digital piano s u pports
the play b ack and recording of 44.1-kHz, 16- b it, stereo .wa v
files.

the [SELECT] button.
You can cycle through the available categories

Aud

Sng
are shown
only when a USB flash drive has been plugged
into the instrument. If you wish to play an Import
Song (

), be sure to choose the corre-
sponding category.

Use the [-/NO] and [+/YES] buttons to
select a song number, “
rnd
” (random),
or “
ALL
”.
If necessary, press the [-/NO] and [+/YES] buttons
together to show Import Songs (
001
to
999
).
MIDI and audio songs
MIDI songs contain data created b y recording the actions of playing and releasing keys—in other words, they do not con-
tain act u al a u dio. This data is similar to sheet m u sic in that it indicates the keys that sho u ld b e played, as well as when and
how hard they sho u ld b e played, in order to reprod u ce a specific piece of m u sic. Using this data, yo u r digital piano’s tone
generator can recreate the so u nd of the recorded performance. MIDI songs are smaller than a u dio songs b eca u se they
contain less data; in addition, they also allow yo u to change the Voice u sed for play b ack and a n u m b er of other parameters.
In contrast, a u dio songs contain act u al recordings of the so u nd of a performance, and they store a u dio data in m u ch the
same way as a cassette tape or digital v oice recorder. A u dio songs can b e played b ack on porta b le m u sic players and
many other types of de v ice, making it easy for yo u to let others hear what yo u ha v e played.

Playing a song
If yo u wish to play a song sa v ed on a USB flash dri v e,
read the section “Working with USB flash dri v es” (page
30), pl u g yo u r flash dri v e into the [USB TO DEVICE] ter-
minal, and then follow the proced u re descri b ed b elow.
• If the USB flash drive plugged into the instrument contains a large number
of folders, a certain amount of time may be required to shown display con-
tent for song selection.
