Insert the special service tool

into the

camshaft end of a new valve guide

and then strike the tool to drive the guide
into the cylinder head.

NOTE:

• Apply engine oil to the surface of a new

valve guide

before installation.

• Make sure that the circlip

contacts the

cylinder head.

Insert the special service tool

into the

valve guide

, and then ream the guide.

NOTE:

• Apply engine oil to the inner surface of the

valve guide before reaming it.

• Turn the valve guide reamer clockwise to

ream the valve guide.

• Do not turn the reamer counterclockwise

when removing it.

• Be sure to clean the valve guide after ream-

ing it.

Measure the valve guide inside diameter.

Checking the valve seat

Eliminate carbon deposits from the valve.

Apply a thin, even layer of Mechanic’s
blueing dye (Dykem) onto the valve seat.

Press the valve lightly against the valve
seat with a valve lapper as shown.
