MEASURING THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE
1. Check:
8 engine oil level
Below the minimum level mark
-»
Add the
recommended engine oil to the proper
level.
Refer to”CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL
LEVEL”.
2. Start the engine, warm it up for several min-
utes, and then turn it off.

When the engine is cold, the engine oil will
have a higher viscosity, causing the engine
oil pressure to increase. Therefore, be sure
to measure the engine oil pressure after
warming up the engine.
3. Remove:

4. Lossen:
8oil gallery bolt 1

The engine, muffler and engine oil are
extremely hot.
5. Check:
8engine oil pressure

a. Start the engine and keep it idling until en-
gine oil starts to seep from the oil gallery
bolt. If no engine oil comes out after one
minute, turn the engine off so that it will not
seize.
b. Check the engine oil passages, the oil filter
and oil pump for damage or leakage.Refer
to”OIL PUMP” in chapter 5.
c. Start the engine after solving the problem(s)
and check the engine oil pressure again.
