OMMUNICATIONS
By installing various communications cards in the CPU, you can
connect the MA IV to a local area network (LAN) in a number
of ways:
Wired LAN
Wired LANs require that the MA IV be connected to the
network by a cable through a PCMCIA card. Wired LAN
connections are most appropriate when using the MA IV as a
desktop computer.
Wireless LAN
Wireless LANs use radio frequency (RF) or infrared technologies
to connect to locations such as corporate-wide LANs,
computer networks, and the Internet. In a typical wireless
configuration, a transmitter/receiver LAN base station connects
to the wired network using standard cabling. The MA IV
accesses the LAN base station through an antenna on the
PCMCIA card.
Cellular/Dial up access
Cellular communications PCMCIA cards can connect to
locations such as corporate enterprise networks or the Internet
by dialing into a computer server on the network and sending
and receiving information through a modem.
