Installation Positioning
NOTE!
If a smoke alarm is to be installed in the kitchen, it should at least have a
hush function, and be installed as far away from the stove and sink as possible to
avoid false alarms.
See pictures on the next page that relates to the
points described as per below.
1. Prioritize the installation of smoke alarms in the bedroom and along
escape routes, make sure you can hear the alarm from all beds. In a
multi-bedroom home, install a smoke alarm in each bedroom given all the
electronics that charge at night. If you are only going to install one smoke
alarm in your home, install as close to all bedrooms as possible and not in
a basement or boiler room.
2. Always install a smoke alarm above each staircase and on each fl oor of the
house.
3. Smoke and heat spread horizontally after it has risen to the ceiling, so
install the smoke alarm in the middle of the ceiling where possible. Make
sure that the smoke alarm is installed at a minimum distance of 50 cm
from all corners. Remember not to mount near ventilation devices.
4. If a smoke alarm cannot be installed in the middle of the ceiling, install it at
a minimum distance of 50 cm from corners or walls in the room.
5. If a smoke alarm is installed on a wall, keep a distance of 10-30 cm under
the ceiling.
6. If a room or hall is longer than 9 meters, several smoke alarms should be
installed in the same space.
7. When the wall or ceiling has an angle, the alarm must be installed within
90 cm from the highest point on the wall or ceiling in the room, but not
closer than 10 cm from the highest point.
