STEPS 10-12: Opening the Papillon
10
The Papillon can be opened by inserting the crank handle into
the crank holder on the gearbox and then turning the crank
handle. The direction of rotation to open or close the roof structure
is determined by the rotation direction when the product was
closed. This may vary each time the product is opened or closed .
When opening, make sure the roof structure opens freely.
The weight of the side rollers will cause the roof structure to
open freely as the canvas is unwound.
DO NOT FORCE the roof structure open if it seems to be
jamming. This may result in damage to the crank handle or the
gear mechanism.
If there is any resistance when opening, check that the center
and side rollers are able to move freely. If the rollers do not
move freely, check the Nyloc screws. These should not be
overtightened and should allow enough for free movement. If
they are too tight, loosen them.
When all the canvas has been unrolled, the roof structure will be in
the first stage of opening or closing (see illustration Step 10).
The roof structure can be left in this position if required. This
position will allow additional shelter from wet and rainy
weather, and allow rain run-off. It is also a convenient position
if the sun is at low angles.
11
To open the roof structure completely, raise the side arms by lifting
the running mechanism on the center pole to the stopper
positioned at the top of the center pole, and inserting the locking
pin below the mechanism to secure it into position. The runner can
be lifted using one hand and the other hand will be free to insert
the locking pin.
NOTE:
Each side can be lifted independently by one person.
There is no need for two people to lift each side simultaneously.
12
Once in the fully open position, secure the wind stabilizing system
by inserting the locking pins through the stabilizer runners into the
horizontal poles. If the holes are not aligned, lift or pull the
horizontal arm up or down to get alignment.
NOTE:
When sides are completely open and the securing pins are
in position, the canopy can be leveled by turning the crank handle
in the required direction until the roof structure is level.
CLOSING THE PAPILLON
Before closing or covering with a cover bag, ensure the canvas is
dry. If the canvas is closed and packed away when wet, it may
result in mildew. If left unattended this may result in permanent
staining.
Before lowering the center runner, make sure that the locking pins
are removed from the horizontal stabilizing runners (STEP 12).
Firmly grab hold of the center runner as per pic before removing
the locking pin. The runner must then be lowered gently until it
is placed on the stopper at the bottom of the center pole (failing to
hold the runner firmly, will result in the runners slamming down
onto the stopper and this may result in damage to the system).
Repeat the same procedure on the opposite side.
When both sides are down proceed to roll up the roof structure by
turning the crank handle until all the fabric is accumulated
overhead. Cover with provided cover bag.
