5.6 Measurement with the GUARD Terminal
The measurement of high-value resistance necessitates extremely small
measuring current and may be rendered problematic by influences such
as electromagnetic fields, humidity or surface current. A precise test setup
is therefore absolutely essential.
For measurements within a range of 10 G

to 1 T

, a guard cable must
be used to prevent surface current from distorting measurement results.
The GUARD terminal at the measuring probe prevents current at the sur-
face of a highly resistive test object from flowing from the + measurement
cable to the - measurement cable, instead of through the highly resistive
material itself.
