Symptom Diagnostic Test Resolution
test to determine where
the failure is.
Hood does
not move
enough air. Verify the duct run is the
correct size, including:
▪ Wall/roof cap is
correct.
▪ No reduction in size
at any point.
▪ Damper is installed
correctly.
▪ No excessive
elbows.
▪ No excessive length.
▪ No air box used.
Correct the duct issue.
Blower motor is not
changing speeds.
▪
For internal blowers,
remove the ducting
above.
▪
For inline blowers,
remove the ducting
on the inlet and
outlet.
▪
For external blowers,
remove the inlet
ducting.
Note: Restrictions in the
ducting can prevent an
audible speed change.
If there is no noticeable
speed change, refer to
“
Blower motor runs, but
not at all four speeds ”. If
there is a speed change,
review the ducting again
for restrictions.
Filters are dirty. Remove the filters to test
for unobstructed airflow,
then clean the filters.
Insufficient make-up air. Open an outside door or
window to test the
airflow.
Wrong size motor. Check the motor size,
and replace if necessary.
