4. Troubleshooting
4.1 The workpiece only partly accepts the electrolyte
• The workpiece is stained or oxidised.

Thoroughly degrease the workpiece (See chapter 3.1).
 The fibre electrode must be thoroughly soaked in electrolyte.
• The fibre tip is soiled.
 Change fibre tip.
4.2 No precious metal deposition takes place
• There is no connection between the rectifier and the workpiece
 Check the workpiece contact between the rectifier unit and the workpiece.
(black socket - cathode cable - workpiece clip or contact plate - workpiece)
• The workpiece has an anti-tarnish coating

Remove the coating.
• The mains lead is not plugged in or the unit is not switched on.
 Check if the mains lead is plugged into the socket.
Ensure that the unit is switched on (indicator LED lights).
• The fuse has blown

Have the unit checked and repaired by an engineer approved by
WIELAND Edelmetalle.
4.3 Precious metal deposition is incomplete
• The electrolyte is contaminated
 Change the electrolyte, but first rinse out the electrolyte jar thoroughly with
distilled water.
• The rectifier unit has been set incorrectly

Set the voltage (level) in accordance with the data given in the table in chapter
3.4.
• The same part of the workpiece has been electroplated for too long without taking
up new electrolyte.
 Dip the fibre tip into fresh electrolyte from time to time and apply evenly to the
surface of the workpiece.
5. Cleaning instructions
The Rhodinette 2 requires no maintenance. From time to time the electrode pens
should be cleaned and the fibre tips (or the felt pads) changed. To clean the electrode
pen, remove the tip, wash out the front part of the pen thoroughly with tap water and
rinse with distilled water. Then insert a new tip.
In order to prevent staining and oxidation, degreased workpieces should never be
stored for prolonged periods without being treated.
