Operation
Notes:
Use the hot knife attachment (8) to cut inside parts from a
shape (e.g. when cutting letters out of a bar of polystyrene).
Use the engraver attachment (9) to remove polystyrene in
layers and to create engravings.
Use the hot wire attachment (2) for cutting out delicate and
complex patterns and shapes.
If possible, secure the polystyrene workpiece to be processed
against inadvertently moving.
Perform some test cuts on a waste piece of polystyrene before
cutting the actual workpiece.
Always move the cutting tool with a light pressure and even
speed thought the workpiece. Too little pressure may lead to
melting of the polystyrene around the cutting tool. Too much
pressure may lead to unclean cutting results.
The cutting hot wire has a higher temperature at the exit side
of the workpiece which may cause surface melting. The wire
can be cooled by blowing on it in order to prevent this.
Replacing the Hot Wire
The hot wire (1) can be replaced as follows with the provided
spare hot wire (5) in case the hot wire is damaged.
1. Form a small loop at the one end of the
spare hot wire and hang it onto the one
end of the hot wire attachment (see
figure 2).
2. Stretch the hot wire and attach it at the
other end of the hot wire attachment with
2 or 3 windings.
3. Cut the overlapping end of the wire generously by means of a
side cutter and use this spare part of the wire to secure the
other loop end of the wire (see figure 2).
