STEP BY STEP TUFTING GUIDE
FRAME SETUP:
Follow the assembly instructions included with the Easy Tuft™ Tufting Frame (sold separately).
Once the Tufting Cloth (sold separately) is tight on the Tufting Frame, draw a design onto your
Tufting Cloth. If you’re not comfortable drawing freehand, use a projector (not included) to trace
on a design. You will be tufting on the back side of your project, so make sure to mirror the image
when transferring your design to the Tufting Cloth.
FEEDING YARN:
It’s important to have the yarn pulling from either a cone (not included) or a center pull yarn ball.
Wind the yarn manually onto a cone or make a yarn ball using a yarn winder (not included). A
smooth and consistent feed from a cone or a yarn ball keeps the Tufting Tool running smoothly
and keeps the pile height even.
Make sure the yarn has a clear path to the Tufting Tool where it won’t get tangled or stepped on
while you work. Make sure to feed the yarn through the coil on the tufting tool to prevent it from
getting tangled in the moving parts of the machine.
Feed the yarn according to yarn thickness to keep your tufting projects looking plush and full. For
most yarns, feed two strands from separate yarn balls/cones through the Tufting Tool using the
yarn threader. Thicker yarns will only need one strand.
USING THE TUFTING TOOL:
It’s important to follow proper directions when using the Tufting Tool:
1. Turn power on.
2. Press the front end of the needle through the Tufting Cloth while putting an even amount of
pressure on the Tufting Tool.
3. Start at the bottom of your tufting project and move the Tufting Tool upward. The Tufting Tool
only moves in one direction. To make diagonal or curved lines, use both handles to guide the gun
in the appropriate direction.
4. Significant and consistent pressure must be applied to push thread through the Tufting Cloth
and to guarantee an even pile height.
5. Release the start switch at the end of each line of tufting prior to removing the Tufting Tool from
the Tufting Cloth. For loop pile, cut the yarn at the end of each line to prevent unraveling.
6. Remove any excess yarn ends at the beginning and end of rows as needed to prevent them
tangling in the Tufting Tool on subsequent lines.
CLEANING UP YOUR TUFTING PROJECT:
Now that you’ve finished tufting, look over the front side of the tufted project. Use tweezers (not
included) to pull any stray yarn strands that may have ended up in the wrong place in your design.
Use scissors to trim any long or straggling yarn strands.
APPLY TUFTING ADHESIVE
Apply Easy Tuft™ Tufting Adhesive (sold separately) to the back of your tufting project with an Easy
Tuft™ Putty Knife (sold separately), making sure it presses into the yarn fibers. This prevents the
yarn from being pulled out from the front of the tufting project. Let adhesive dry until no longer
tacky (approx 8 hrs).
REMOVE PROJECT FROM FRAME
This can be done before or after applying the Tufting Adhesive.
APPLY PROJECT BACKING
Cut away excess Tufting Cloth from around your tufting project, leaving a 2 inch border of Tufting
Cloth around the project. If your project has curved edges, cut reliefs along the border so that it
can fold in on itself. Fold the excess Tufting Cloth over onto the back of the tufting project and
glue down using a hot glue gun. Make sure it is folded in enough so no excess Tufting Cloth is
visible on the front edges of the tufted project.
