Why does the APP show a different SOC (battery charge level) value than my
Smart Shunt (battery monitor)?
• Incorrect installation (some consumers or chargers bypass the external shunt)
• Incorrect setting on the external shunt
• Calibration error (needs to be recalibrated)
In general, small differences (5-10 % deviation) can occur because both systems calculate differently.
Which charger is suitable for the battery?
For optimum charging of LiFePO4 batteries, we recommend chargers with a
CCCV characteristic curve. The recommended charging voltage (see data sheet) should always
be adhered to. A lower charging voltage can result in the battery not being fully charged or the
charging time being significantly longer.
If the charging voltage is too high, the battery‘s internal protection is triggered, and charging is
stopped. Repeated or very high overvoltage can lead to a defect.
Can I continue to use my charger for lead batteries?
Chargers for lead acid batteries may only be used if the correct charging voltage is set and
no desulphation program is used. For efficient charging, we recommend chargers with a special
LiFePO4 mode or professional devices, where the values can be adapted to LiFePO4 batteries.
Can I combine the battery with a starter battery?
In general, only batteries of the same type and model may be connected in parallel. You
can never connect a LiFePO4 battery directly to a lead battery, as problems will inevitably
arise due to the very different charging and discharging characteristics. For combined use
with a lead starter battery, we recommend a suitable B2B charger (also known as a charging
booster). This enables optimum charging of the LiFePO4 battery by the alternator without a
direct connection between the lead and lithium battery.
