Chimney and fl ue
The chimney is the most important part of your wood-burning hearth.
When the chimney is right it will not distribute any smoke into your room, leave any deposit on the glass pane or create bad
combustion. Before starting the installation of the stove, your installer or a qualifi ed chimney sweep must check whether the
chimney fl ue has a diameter of at least 150 millimetres over the entire length, and whether the channel is clean, smooth and
leak-proof.
Chimney with proper draught
Warm air wants to ascend. This is the principle of every chimney. It helps when the wind near the chimney
mouth draws the air from the chimney.
Fall wind may give the opposite eff ect and blow the air back into the chimney. Relatively cold foggy air
may thwart proper draught in your chimney, as does a long fl ue pipe with a rough inside and many bends.
If the natural draught in your chimney is poor, your installer can give you information about using a
ventilator for your fl ue tube.
What to do in case of chimney fi re
In case of chimney fi re, immediately close the shut-off valve in the fl ue and all air supply ducts. Call the
fi re department. After the fi re is extinguished, the chimney and the stove must be inspected again by your
installer.
Maintenance
Small maintenance
•
It is advisable to leave an ash layer of two to three centimetres. It will protect the fi re plate.
•
Remove cooled ashes from the stove 2-3 times per week. Using an ash bucket is recommended.
•
Clean the exterior of the stove with a damp cloth that does not give off fl uff . Do not use any aggressive cleansing agents
or abrasives.
•
Clean the cold glass pane with a cleaning agent for ceramic cooking rings.
•
Do not touch the clean glass with your fi ngers. Finger marks burn into the glass.
•
Oil the hinges and the door fastener once in a while.
Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents or abrasives to maintain your stove.
Decommissioning
•
Leave the air valve open during the summer time. This will create an air current that keeps moisture out of the wood-
burning stove.
•
Clean the fi replace thoroughly after the winter season. Do not forget to clean the draw ducts in the fi replace.
Annual maintenance
•
Have your chimney swept thoroughly by a recognised chimney sweep every year for fi re safety purposes and to satisfy
any fi re insurance requirements.
•
Have the valves checked to ensure they are operating correctly.
•
Have all the door and glass seals checked for wear and tear every year.
•
Have the fl ue gas by-pass channels cleaned every year. See page 58 for further instructions
Safety
A wood-burning fi replace from WANDERS provides you with a comfortable and safe heat source in your home.
Fire safety starts with a good installation and a fl ue gas chimney that works properly. Your installation engineer must comply
with the installation instructions as defi ned on page 23 and beyond. To light the fi re safely, the following points are important:
1. Light your fi replace with the door closed as far as possible. This will increase the yield and is better for the environment.
2. Prevent small children or dependants from coming into contact with a burning stove, and never leave them alone when
