Ground Fault Diagnostics
Faulty ground fault diagnostics!
Ground fault diagnostics is (functional) not possible or only partially possible:
• Superimposed DC external voltage between the 24V field and ground
potential
• Superimposed asymmetric AC voltage between the 24V field and ground
potential
• Devices operated in parallel for ground fault monitoring/testing/diagnostics
• Symmetric ground faults (ground faults that occur simultaneously against the
24V field and 0V field potentials)
• Simultaneously applied isolation test voltage
Do not enable ground fault diagnostics at the same time!
Enabling ground fault diagnostics at the same time influences the thresholds due
to the parallel internal resistances of the modules.
Do not enable ground fault diagnostics for multiple modules or if there is not
galvanic isolation between the feed segments.
The functional principle in detecting ground faults is based on evaluating the DC
residual voltage. For the ground diagnostics, the power supply filter uses the
back-side DIN-rail contact for the functional ground. When the enclosure is
snapped on, the connection to the grounded DIN-rail is established.
Ensure proper contact with the DIN-rail!!
The DIN-rail contact is used exclusively on this device for the functional ground.
Proper electrical contact between the DIN-rail and device is necessary to
maintain the EMC characteristics and function of the device.
