Propeller
For best performance and fuel economy, keep engine
rpm within the maximum revolution range; refer to the
Engines
section. If maximum engine rpm exceeds the
maximum recommended engine rpm the propeller
must be replaced.
Damaged propellers must be replaced as soon as pos-
sible. If a boat must be driven with a damaged propel-
ler, do so with extreme caution and only at reduced
rpm.
WARNING!
Make sure the engine can not start during work on pro-
peller(s); remove ignition key(s) and shift drive into for-
ward or reverse.
Only G series propellers may be used with the DPH
sterndrive.
Only GR series propellers may be used with the DPR
sterndrive.
A tool for removing and reinstalling propellers is sup-
plied with the transom shield kit.
Removal
1 Lock the propeller shaft. This may be done in one
of two ways:
a
Remove the gear shift cable from the stern-
drive.
Remove the six bolts and remove the cover (
1
)
from the sterndrive.
Remove the cotter pin (
2
) from the wire swivel pin
(
3
) to which the gear shift cable (
4
) is fastened.
Remove the swivel pin and washer (
5
) from the
lever (
6
) without turning the pin.
Put the sterndrive into gear by hand by pulling the
lever to either the forward position (
F
) or reverse
position (
R
).
IMPORTANT!
Never use the EVC lever to put the sterndrive in
gear.
b Select “NEUTRAL”. Place a block of wood
between the cavitation plate and one of the pro-
peller blades.
