Perform the following steps:
Note
♦
Do not remove both flange shafts from gearbox at the same
time. If the differential bevel gears turn, it is difficult to reinstall
the securing bolts for the flange shafts.
♦
Remove drive shaft from gearbox and lay to side. Drive shaft
is fixed onto suspension strut with tensioning belt -T10038- .
♦
You do not need to remove the centre bolt of the drive shaft.
– Remove noise insulation ⇒ Rep. Gr. 50 ; Assembly overview
- noise insulation .
– Remove drive shaft heat shield from engine -arrows-, if fitted.
Unbolt drive shaft from gearbox.
– Place drip tray under gearbox.
– Raise drive shaft as high as possible and secure. Take care
not to damage paint on drive shaft in the process.
– Remove right flange shaft of gearbox.
Bolt has a 6 mm hexagon socket. Bolt can also be removed and
installed with socket -V.A.G 1669- .
– Pull out flange shaft.
– Pry seal out using assembly lever.
– Lightly oil outer circumference of new oil seal.
– Half-fill space between sealing lip and dust lip of new seal with
sealing grease -G 052 128- -arrow-.
