2.1 Product description

The Vitocal 160-A is a heat pump for DHW heating with integral
DHW cylinder. In circulating mode it uses the energy from the instal-
lation room to do this. In extract mode the air is drawn from other rooms
via pipework to the appliance. The internal fan enables an air flow rate
of up to 250 m

3

/h. This makes the Vitocal 160-A suitable for the con-

trolled venting of several rooms up to a total area of approx. 200 m

2

.

The solar version of the Vitocal 160-A with internal indirect solar coil
additionally enables the use of solar energy.
With its practical pipe connections and ready to plug in wiring, the
Vitocal 160-A is simple to install, for example, in the cellar or in the
utility room.

Use

The volume of the DHW cylinder of the Vitocal 160-A is 285 l and so
is comfortably sufficient for a large family (up to 5 members).
The use of energy from the air inside the building is very efficient and
therefore cost-effective. At an air temperature of 15 °C, an air flow rate
of 250 m

3

/h and a DHW temperature in the region of 15 °C to 45 °C

the heat pump achieves a coefficient of performance (COP) of 3.54.
In heat pump mode alone, the max. DHW temperature is 55 °C. With
DHW boosting from the integral booster heater a maximum of 65 °C
is possible.

Operating modes

The Vitocal 160-A can be used flexibly through its various operating
modes.
DHW is heated in all operating modes, as soon as the temperature in
the DHW cylinder falls below the start threshold. In automatic mode
the control unit only turns on the fan when heating domestic water and
the speed is regulated depending upon the energy required.

Continuous operation enables the on-going ventilation of the rooms
connected to the extract pipework with constant fan speed (stage 1).
In circulating mode the installation room can be dehumidified in this
operating mode. In timer mode ventilation occurs at a different fan
speed (stage 2) over a period selected by the user.
The fan speeds of both fan stages can be adjusted via seperate
parameters. If a higher fan speed is set for stage 2 than stage 1, timer
mode can be used as party function. For reduced ventilation in timer
mode, e.g. switching when you are away, a lower fan speed is set for
fan stage 2 than for stage 1.

Output

The Vitocal 160-A is designed so that a DHW volume of approx.
1000 l can be heated to 45 °C within 24 h. The exact amount depends
upon the inlet temperatures of the air and cold water supplied as well
as the method of drawing. To cover peak loads the immersion heater
can be switched on.

Benefits

own in heat pump mode up to 55 °C. No other heat source is required
to heat domestic hot water (mono-mode or monoenergetic mode).

the Vitocal 160-A is suitable with a cover for extract mode for con-
trolled ventilation of up to 200 m

 living space (at approx. 0.5 air

changes per hour).

■ Solar version (type WWKS) with internal indirect coil and solar con-

trol unit for connecting flat-plate and tube collectors.

■ With integral electrical immersion heater (1.5 kW) for DHW temper-

atures up to 65 °C.
