4 Operation

General guidelines

•  Carry out the maintenance described regularly, including the ‘Daily 

Procedure before Starting’.

•  Use anti-freeze or coolant fluid in the engine cooling system through-

out the year to protect against frost damage and prevent corrosion. 
See the engine manual for the correct specification.

•  Never allow the engine to run without thermostat.

•  Always use a good quality lubricating oil.

Consult the relevant engine manual for the correct specification.

•  Use a good quality diesel fuel that is free of water and other pollut-

ants.

•  Avoid the generator set having to provide maximum power contin-

uously.

•  Always follow the safety advice, see page

Following the recommendations below will result in a longer operat-
ing life, better performance and more economical operation of your 
generator set.
