4.3. CONSIDERATIONS PRIOR TO A PATIENT DONNING GOGGLES
Contraindications:
May be contraindicated in patients who exhibit a
broken nose, recent face/head trauma or surgery, or recent eye surgery.
Immediately stop using the goggles if the patient shows any signs of allergy
to the materials that comprise the goggles. Please consult a specialist in such
circumstances before using the mask and strap on these types of patients.
PRIOR TO DONNING:
• Only use the goggles on intact skin.
• Explain to the patient the purpose of the goggles and what symptoms the
patient may experience during testing while wearing the goggles.
• Reassure the patient that the clinician will remain present for safety
throughout the testing and treatment procedures and that the
patient can request removal of the goggles at any time.
CUSHION USE:
• Ensure the cushion used is lined up with the borders of the
goggles and does not intrude into the interior of goggles.
• Ensure the hook and loop (Velcro) is firmly attached and no
gaps between the cushion used and body unit.
4.4. DONNING THE GOGGLES:

• Always clean the goggles before each patient use,
following the cleaning instructions in
• Always guard your patient and ensure their safety to avoid cable
entanglement and to ensure they are able to move and change
position safely while in the dark environment of the goggles.
• Ensure that the visual fixation light is “OFF” for both eyes prior to having
the patient don the glasses unless desired “ON” at that time.
