Remeasurement and restamping of all sails in question shall
be made every f o u r t h year.
Sheeting of sails through a b l o c k at the b o o m end is not
a l l o w e d .
The number of sails carried a b o a r d the yacht is optional.
Rig and spars
M a s t and boom to be made of aluminium alloy. W h e n re-
placing a mast or boom the n e w one shall be measured and
a p p r o v e d by a measurer.
Measurement marks (black p a i n t e d bands, 25 mm wide) shall
be located on mast and b o o m as f o l l o w s . The upper edge
of the mast's lower band shall be located 811 mm from the
l o w e r end of the mast. The l o w e r edge of the mast's upper
band shall be located 7900 mm above the upper edge of the
l o w e r band (8711 mm above the lower end of the mast). The
inner e d g e of the boom band shall be located 3300 mm f r o m
the bottom of the mast's g o o s e n e c k track.
Total length of the mast not to be less than 9000 mm.
A n imaginary point of i n t e r s e c t i o n between the f o r e s i d e of
t h e mast and the extension of the forestay not to be more
than 9084 mm above the l o w e r end of the mast.
The w e i g h t of the mast i n c l u d i n g spreaders, t r a c k s , spin-
naker boom eye, shroud and s t a y tangs, steaming light w i t h
e l e c t r i c w i r i n g , and sheaves f o r halyards, but e x c l u d i n g stays,
s h r o u d s , halyards, winches or extra mast top light, not to
be less than 30 kilos. This c o r r e s p o n d s to a w e i g h t of the
mast tube profile (without luff g r o o v e ) of a p p r o x . 2.5 kilos
per meter. The dimension of the profile not to be less than
1 3 5 x 9 5 mm and of uniform t h i c k n e s s and not t a p e r e d . The
mast's centre of gravity ( e q u i p p e d a c c o r d i n g to the above)
not to be lower than 4450 mm above the l o w e r end of the
mast.
The bolts for the main shroud tangs not to be located lower
than 8600 mm above the lower end of the mast, and the tangs
f o r the l o w e r shrouds must not be l o w e r than 4450 mm above
the lower end of the mast.
The spreaders to have a m i n i m u m length of 755 mm, mea-
s u r e d f r o m the mast to the p o s i t i o n of the main s h r o u d . The
mast to have a track for the mainsail slides. Internal halyards
must not be fitted in the mast.
The boom: Length from boom end to mast 3 5 0 0 ± 5 0 mm. The
b o o m to have a maximum p r o f i l e height of 105 mm and a
m i n i m u m w e i g h t (including roller reefing gear and mast slide)
of 6.75 kilos.
The length of the spinnaker pole measured f r o m the center-
line of the yacht to the extreme outer end of t h e p o l e must
not exceed 3100 mm, when the pole is set a t h w a r t s h i p s and
horizontally.
The spinnaker pole not to be carried higher than 2075 mm
above the lower end of the mast.
All shrouds and stays to be 1 x 1 9 stainless s t e e l w i r e rope,
minimum diameter 5 mm. An inner forestay must not be fit-
ted on the yacht. A t t a c h e m e n t s of main and l o w e r shrouds
must not be moved f r o m the foot rail. A t r i m m i n g d e v i c e on
the bridle of the backstay may be used.
Lifelines
There shall be at least one lifeline at a height of at least 300
mm above deck. The lifelines need not be f i x e d t o the aft
stanchion of the f o r e pulpit, but the height of the lifeline at
this point shall be at least 100 mm above deck.
Accommodation
The accommodation must not be altered in s u c h a manner
that the displacement of the yacht is obviously r e d u c e d .
Navigational aids
Radio and electronic aids may be used in a c c o r d a n c e with
the R.O.R.C. Regulations 1970.
Safety equipment for ocean racing
In accordance w i t h the R.O.R.C. Regulations 1970. The life
raft shall be located on deck at the mast during o c e a n racing.
Rules for the Vega-class
Proposals for changing the rules can be made at t h e annual
meetings held by the Vega Clubs or at an extra meeting
announced at the annual meeting, at which a m a j o r i t y of two
thirds is required for a request to the National V e g a A s s o c i a -
tion in question. National associations to remit all p r o p o s a l s
to the VEGA ONE D E S I G N A S S O C I A T I O N ( V O D A ) . V O D A
then issues recommendations to all the National V e g a A s s o -
ciations. Rules for the Vega-class are a p p r o v e d by the
D a n i s h , Finish, and N o r w e g i a n Vega Clubs, the V e g a C l u b s
in Gothenburg and in S t o c k h o l m , S w e d e n as w e l l as by the
S w e d i s h Vega A s s o c i a t i o n at the " K r i s t i n e h a m n M e e t i n g "
