Description of the Airplane and its Systems

AFCU 

 

 
The Advanced Flight Control Unit (AFCU) is a self developed 
“remote control” unit for the Advanced Flight Systems EFIS. 
Due to the EFIS units only sporting one rotary button each, 
several key values have to be mapped onto a single rotary 
which is hardly the best ergonomic. 
 
It provides the following inputs: 

•

 

BARO to select QNH for the altimeter function. 

Pushing the BARO button will toggle from QNH to 
STD (1013). 

•

 

NAV SRC toggle button to cycle through available 

nav sources. 

•

 

CRS Knob to select the HSI course direction. 

Pressing the CRS knob will sync it to the current 
heading. 

•

 

TIMER pushbutton, short push to start/stop, long 

push to reset. 

•

 

AP/FD pushbutton & LED to engage/disengage the 

autopilot/flight director functions. 

•

 

HDG push & pull knob. Pushing the knob will 

engage the LAT NAV mode, pulling selects the HDG 
mode. 

•

 

LAT ARM pushbutton  & LED, engages and indicates 

the lateral nav intercept status.
