Materials directly in contact with the faceplate of the fireplace, especially the vertical 
and horizontal surround, must be non-combustible and have the minimal dimensions 
as shown on figure 16.

Non-combustible materials such as brick, stone or ceramic tile may project in front of 
and onto the fireplace decorative frame. 

 

Caution:

 Materials must be installed so that the faceplate may be removed after the 

installation. The faceplate is designed to overlap the material surrounding the fireplace. If the 
material is thicker, use a faceplate gauge for positioning and make sure that the faceplate can 
be removed after it has been installed.
