1.1 What is TENS technology and what does it consist of?
TENS
(Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) technology provides
pain relief
using an appropriate
intensity electric current. It is a
non-drug method
daily
used in pain centers
.
Whatever the pathology, TENS Technology does not have the power to cure the cause of pain but to reduce or
eliminate the sensation of pain.
The electrical current is transmitted by electrodes (the electrical system and the hydrogel together) placed on the
surface of the skin. It creates an electrical excitation of the nerves. Pain is reduced through two
actions
:

IMMEDIATE:
The reduction of pain transmission to the spinal cord, in other words: "gate control" effect.
•
LASTING:
The increase in the secretion of endorphins, natural hormones secreted by the brain.
Treatment with TENS technology provides an immediate and lasting pain relief.
All TENS programs are efficient: this method has been scientifically tested and approved by the medical
profession.
3 programs are available and each has 15 intensity levels.
Each program lasts 30 minutes. The patch automatically turns off at the end of a program.
You should increase the intensity until the feeling of electrical stimulation provided by the patch is felt
strongly without ever becoming painful. If the stimulation becomes painful, the intensity should be
reduced. The program that you will choose should not provoke you:
Each program can be set at intensity between 1 and 15. Always start the stimulation at a low intensity and
gradually increase it until you
find the one that will give you the best relief
. Depending on the program used, this
intensity may vary. The nervous system is very quickly accustomed to the current. During the first 5 minutes of a
program or after several uses you may find that your sensitivity to stimulation decreases, and this is completely
normal. Do not hesitate to increase the intensity to find a stronger stimulation level, but it has to stay painless.
Before using electrotherapy, it is necessary that a health professional has diagnosed the origin and reason
of your pain. Your pharmacist or doctor can give you instructions on how to perform electrotherapy
self-treatment.
Be sure not to use this patch on an unauthorized area, see chapter 4.1. Apply the device only on healthy, clean skin,
without cream or greasy lotion.
It is recommended that the usage of the patch by mentally or physically impaired people takes place under the
supervision of a responsible adult.
URGO ELECTROTHERAPY PAINFUL PERIODS RECHARGEABLE PATCH
is indicated for chronic pelvic (lower
abdominal) pain (e.g. endometriosis (program 3)) and for primary dysmenorrhea, i.e. menstrual pain that is not
caused by any underlying gynecological disorder (programms 1 and 2). The pain begins before or at the beginning
of the menstrual period, and most of the time it last from one to three days and it is manifested by cramps in the
lower abdomen, which sometimes extend to the lumbar region.
