Making an automatic distress call
If you have programmed your MMSI number, the UM425 can transmit an
automated distress call with your current location and nature of the distress.
The radio then monitors the channel 16 for a response and repeats the
distress call every few minutes until it receives an acknowledgement.
To send an automatic distress call, press and hold the
DISTRESS
button
for three seconds. If no MMSI number has been programmed, the radio
prompts you to enter your MMSI number.
If you want to include the nature of your distress in the distress call, use the
distress procedure below:

Press the
DISTRESS
button.

The radio displays the list of distress conditions; use the
CHANNEL UP
and
CHANNEL DOWN
buttons to highlight the nature of your distress,
then press and hold the
DISTRESS
button for three seconds.
• Undesignated
• Fire
• Flooding
• Collision
• Grounding
• Capsizing
• Sinking
• Adrift
• Abandoning
• Piracy/Armed
• Overboard

If no MMSI number has been programmed, the radio prompts you to
enter your MMSI number.
Canceling an automatic distress call
While the radio is waiting for a response, it gives you the option of canceling
the call. To cancel the distress call, highlight
Cancel
and press the
SELECT
button.
