connected, and the parking brake must be en-
gaged. With manual gearboxes, put the gear
lever into the neutral position, with automatic
gearboxes put the gear selector into “P”.
Position the aluminium jump leads in such a
manner that they cannot be caught up in the
moving parts of the engine.
Using the aluminium jump leads
Connecting
Note:
First check whether the two batteries, donor
battery (car B) and flat battery (car A) have the
same voltage (12 or 24 volt) and approximately
the same capacity. Compare the label information
on the batteries!
RISK OF EXPLOSION!
On no
account should you connect the
negative pole to the flat battery as
there is a risk that sparks may fly and ignite
explosive gases.
1. Connect the red aluminium jump lead
3
with
the red pole terminal (+)
2
to the positive pole
on battery (A).
2. Connect the other pole terminal
2
of the alu-
minium jump lead
3
to the positive pole of the
donor battery (B).
3. Connect the black aluminium jump lead
1
with the black pole terminal (–)
4
to the neg-
ative pole of the donor battery (B).
4. Then connect the other pole terminal
4
of the
black aluminium jump lead
1
to the vehicle
chassis, e.g. on the earthing strap or another
unpainted part on the engine block of the bro-
ken-down vehicle (A).
Note:
The parts should be as far away as possible
form the starter battery in order to prevent any ex-
plosive gas that may develop from being ignited.
Note:
If the red LED illuminates, it means that the
overvoltage protection is active and works. This ab-
sorbs any potential voltage peaks.
Start
After connecting the aluminium jump lead, start
the engine of the vehicle with the donor battery
and allow it to run normally (car B). Then, start
the vehicle with the dead battery (A).
Note:
After every attempt to start the car - which
should not be longer than 15 seconds - wait for
at least 1 minute. If you cannot start the car after
several attempts, contact a garage.
After successfully starting the broken-down
vehicle (car A) wait for 2 to 3 minutes until the
engine is running smoothly.
Q
Disconnecting
Note:
Disconnect the aluminium jump leads in the
reverse order to the way they were connected.
1. Remove the pole terminal
4
of the black alu-
minium jump lead
1
from the vehicle chassis
of the broken-down car (A).
2. Then disconnect the other pole terminal
4
of
the black aluminium jump lead
1
from the
negative pole of the donor battery (B).
3. Remove the two pole terminals
2
of the red alu-
minium jump lead
3
in any order you wish (A, B).
When removing the aluminium jump leads,
make sure that they do not come into contact
with the moving parts of the engine.
Note:
Do not switch the vehicle that has been alu-
minium jump started off immediately. Drive the vehi-
cle around for a while so that the battery is recharged
by the alternator.
Q
Care and maintenance
DANGER TO LIFE FROM
ELECTRIC SHOCK!
For reasons of electrical
safety, the aluminium jump lead may never be
cleaned with water or other fluids and never be
immersed into water.
