8.3 The cleave status is marked in the cleave
control window (13).
If the cleave status is error , hinge the clamp
lever (10) in position I , and hold the lever in
position while removing the fiber from the
two clamps and fiber insert hole (11).
Continue the installation without fiber and
restart at section 7.3
Note: in case the RCAT tool shows two
errors during the installation process, the
problem might be overcome by turning the
program controller (2) without inserting a
splice and without using a fiber for 5 complete
turns.
• Make sure to use a high quality fiber
stripping tool.
• Bend the fiber to detect eventual fiber
damage after stripping.
• Clean fiber with a cloth soaked in
isopropyl alcohol.
Electrostatic charge on the fiber may
lead to malfunctioning of the
RECORDsplice tool. Test: move the fiber
slowly within a few millimeters distance
to the RECORDsplice housing. If the fiber
is deflected towards the housing (visible
bending of the fiber), the fiber is
electrostatically charged. Repeat
cleaning the fiber with a cloth soaked
with isopropyl alcohol and repeat the
test.

8.2b In that case, remove the fiber
entrance funnel.Push the splice holder end
stop (19) and slide the splice holder left or
right. Slide the spring to the right, and lift out
the funnel. Clean the funnel using a piece of
125μ fiber and reinstall the funnel. If needed
replace the funnel. Mount the funnel back in
place, and secure it by sliding the spring to
the left. Do not clean the fiber entrance hole
funnel with metal brushes or any kind of
abrasive items.
8 Trouble shooting
8.1 If the program control or any other part
does not work correctly, verify that all
required steps were done correctly and in the
right sequence.
8.2a If the fiber cannot be inserted into
the fiber entrance hole verify following steps.
• The fiber has to be stripped as described
in point 7.3.
• The fiber clamp lever (10) should be in
position II (see 7.4.1).
• The splice holder should be in the correct
position (see 7.2.4).
If all the previous steps are OK, it is possible
that the fiber funnel is blocked by dirt or a
piece of fiber.
