INTENDED USE AND FUNCTION
Intended Use:
The LS–22 Lawn Seeder is intended to be
USED ONLY to apply grass seed at a properly prepared
worksite. The LS–22 Lawn Seeder is intended only to be
used with grass seed. The LS–22 Lawn Seeder is NOT
intended to be used for any purpose other than to apply
grass seed to the turf. The LS–22 is not intended to be
used for the application of fertilizers, weed killers or lawn
foods. The LS–22 is not intended to be used as a lawn
rake/sweeper, lawn aerator, or a rototiller. The LS–22 is
NOT designed for or intended to accept riders.
DESCRIPTION OF ENGINE CONTROLS
(See Figure 2)
Engine Controls:
The LS-22 has two different engines,
Turfco Product Number 85363 has a Honda engine,
Turfco Product Number 85364 has a Briggs and Stratton
engine.
The engine controls are all located on the engines. The
engines are equipped with a On/Off switch (Honda),
throttle, fuel shutoff valve, and a choke. Ensure that
all engine controls are in good operating condition. Do
not alter engine controls and/or operate the LS–22 with
defective or non-operational engine controls.
DESCRIPTION OF OPERATOR CONTROLS
(See Figure 2)
The operator controls that are located on the handlebar
are the clutch control handle, wheel lift handle, and the
seed gate control handle.
Always be at the operator’s
position behind the handlebar before engaging any of
the handlebar operator controls.
TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY,
Move To the Operator’s Position Behind The
Handlebar Before Engaging Any Operator Control
Handle.
The operator control that is located on the front of the
seed hopper is the seed gate dial.
The operator control that is located above the rear
axle is the blade depth adjustment.
The engine should
always be stopped before changing the blade depth
adjustment.
Ensure that all operator controls are in good operating
condition. Do not alter operator controls and/or operate
the LS–22 Lawn Seeder with defective or non–operational
operator controls.
Description
Clutch Handle:
The clutch handle is located across
the top of the handlebar. Slowly pull back on the clutch
handle to start rotation of the blade assembly.
The clutch
DOES NOT act as a brake for the blade
assembly
when the clutch is released (disengaged).
After the clutch is released, the blade assembly will
continue to rotate and coast to a stop.
TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY,
Always Allow the Blade Assembly To Stop Rotating
Before Lifting or Tilting The LS–22.
Never Place Hands or Feet Under the LS–22 Deck
Until the Engine Is Stopped and Blade Assembly
Has Stopped Rotating.
Wheel Lift Handle:
The wheel lift handle, located on
the lower handlebar, raises and lowers the rear wheels.
When the rear wheels are lifted, the rear of the LS–22
deck lowers allowing the blade assembly to contact the
turf.
Pull backwards on the wheel lift handle to lower the
blades to the turf, push forward on the handle to raise
the blades out of the turf.
Seed Gate Control Handle:
The seed gate control
handle, located on the handlebar, opens and closes the
seed gate (located on the bottom of the seed hopper).
The handle has only two positions, “Open” and “Close”.
Because seed will begin to flow as soon as the seed
gate is opened, always start forward movement of the
LS–22 before opening the seed gate. Always close the
seed gate before stopping the forward movement of the
LS–22.
The seed gate handle should move easily from open to
close, if excessive force is required to open or close the
gate, check for an obstruction in the seed gate openings,
or excess debris built up around the gate opening and
control cable end.
Seed Gate Dial:
The seed gate dial is an adjustable stop
that limits the opening size of the seed gate. Limiting
the opening size of the gate is needed to control the
seed flow to set seed application rates. The dial is also
required to adjust to variations in the actual size of the
seed.
The dial is calibrated from “0” to “17”. At setting “0”, the
gate is completely closed. The gate opening will continue
getting larger as the setting gets closer to “17”. Refer to
the seed application chart in this manual for seed gate
control dial settings.
