Note on the disposal of
waste batteries in accordance with
Section 18 BattG
The Electri cal and Electroni c Equipment Act (Elektro G ) contains a variety of requirements for the
handling of electrical and electronic equipment. The most importan t ones are compiled here.
14.1.
Separate detection of waste equipment
Electrica l and electronic equipment that has become waste is called waste. Owners of waste
equipment must provide them with a separate collection from unsorted municipal waste. In
particular, waste equipment does not belong in household waste, but in special collection
and return systems.
14.2.
Batteries and accumulables
Owners of waste equipment must normally separate waste batteries and accumula to rs which are not
enclosed by the old equipment from it before being discharged at a collection point. This does not
apply insofar as the waste equipment is handed over to public waste disposal agencies and separated
there for the purpose of preparation for the reuse of other waste equipment.
14.3.
Options for returning old equipment
Owners of waste equipment from private households may hand them over at the collection points
of the public waste disposal agencies or at the collection points set up by manufacturers or
distributo rs within the meaning of the Elektro G . An online directory of collection and return points
can be found here:

Privacy Notice
Waste equipment often contains sensitive personal data. This applies in particular to information and
telecommunications technology devices such as computers and smartphones. Please note in your own
interest that the deletion of the data on the waste equipment to be disposed of is the responsibility of
each end user.
14.5.
Meaning of the symbol "crossed-out garbage can"
The symbol of a crossed-out garbage can regularly displayed on electrical and electronic equipment
points out that the respective device must be recorded separately from unsorted municipal waste at the
end of its life.
