– Ground Preparation
4.1. Choice of Ground
IMPORTANT: The ground must be strictly flat, hard and level. The difference in level from one
end to the other of the swimming pool must not be more than 2 cm.
Your swimming pool is exclusively intended for being placed on the ground.
Any earthworks must always be done in firm soil and not in fill.
If the ground is sloping, earth must always be removed from the uphill part and not used to build up
the downhill part.
When the terrain is well levelled, it is essential to remove any stones, grass and roots and compact the
earth well. If this operation is not properly carried out, grass and weeds could regrow under the liner
and damage it. A thin layer of very fine sifted sand (1 to 1.5cm thick) must be spread in order to flatten
the whole area.
If you are installing your swimming pool on a slab or cemented earth, make sure that the level is
correct and the cement is not coarse.
The dimensions of the slab or the cemented ground should
be be larger than those of the pool by at least 30cm at the rounded ends and at least 60cm
along the straight sides of the pool
.
Remember to allow the necessary trenches to fit the horizontal rails
(see chapter 5 “Digging of
Trenches”.
You should always position your pool on a rotproof felt groundsheet, so as to protect the liner
.
The guarantee will only be valid if the liner has been properly protected.
Don’t forget that a swimming pool filled with water is extremely heavy (for example, an oval pool 7.30m
long weighs 29 tonnes when filled with water).
Leave sufficient room around the pool for unrestricted play and movement.
Decide where to install the filter as a function of the possibilities of electrical power supply; by
preference, install it on the opposite side from dominant winds.
4.2. Dimensions of pools
The dimensions shown are
external
dimensions necessary for tracing the surface required by the
swimming pool on the ground.
