Inserting the Humeral IO Components

EMITT-TMU has a multi-use humeral IO training site on the right shoulder, and it
is composed of 3 parts: a receiver box, an IO plug, and a skin plug.  The receiver
box is intended for indefinite use, while the 2 plugs are consumables and will need
to be replaced after several uses.  To replace the IO plug and or skin plug, remove
the existing plug by pulling up from the edges. Install a new IO plug by wetting all
four  (4)  sides  with  water  or  alcohol,  and  pushing  the  plug  straight  in  with  both
thumbs (Figure 16).  Install the new skin plug by inserting the tongue into the top
edge, and tucking the flange into the sides and finally the bottom flange.
