Using System Setup after installing an IDE
HDD
To add a hard disk drive when the manufacturer’s installation
software is not available, perform the following to configure the
system to recognize the new drive.
1 Turn on the server and press
Del
.
The BIOS SETUP display appears.
2 Select STANDARD CMOS SETUP and press
Enter
.
3 If Type of Primary Slave is “None,” press the
+
key to set it
to “Auto.”
4 Press
Esc
.
5 Select SAVE & EXIT SETUP and press
Enter
.

Press
Y
, then
Enter
.
The settings are saved and the server restarts.
7 Click Start, Programs, Administrative tools (Common),
then Disk administrator.
The Disk Administrator screen appears.
The new disk should be labeled “Disk x.” It should appear in
the last line and have no partitions. Refer to the Help files and
other user manuals for complete details on how to set up
partitions and format the drive.
To partition and format the new disk, continue.
8 Click on the new disk’s area.
The disk’s border highlights.
9 From the menu bar, select Partition, then Create. Click Yes if
you are sure of the results (see Help).
10 Follow the screen prompts to set up your disk environment.
