Cleaning the Spark Arrester
Service Interval:
Every 100 hours
Note:
A spark arrester is available as an option. If
you require a spark arrester, contact your Authorized
Service Dealer. Genuine Toro spark arresters are
approved by the USDA Forestry Service.
WARNING
If the engine has been running, the muffler
will be hot. Contact with hot surfaces may
cause personal injury.
Keep your hands, feet, face, clothing and
other body parts away from the muffler and
other hot surfaces until they have cooled.
1.
Park the machine on a level surface and shut
off the engine.
2.
Allow the engine to cool.
3.
Disconnect the wire from the spark plug; refer to
Disconnecting the Spark-Plug Wire (page 28)
.
4.
Remove the divider plate (if equipped); refer to
Removing the Divider Plate (page 28)
.
5.
Remove the 2 nuts (8 mm) and remove the
muffler from the cylinder (
).

Remove the 3 screws (4 mm) from the exhaust
deflector, and remove the deflector (
).
7.
Remove the screws (5 mm and 6 mm) from
the muffler protector, and remove the muffler
protector (

Remove the screws (4 mm) from the spark
arrester, and remove the spark arrester from the
muffler (
).
9.
Use a brush to carefully remove carbon deposits
from the spark-arrester screen (
Note:
Replace the spark arrester if it has
breaks or holes.

Install the spark arrester, muffler protector,
exhaust deflector, and muffler in the reverse
order of disassembly.

The spring is under tension when installed

Be careful when removing the spring.
1.

4.
Remove the divider plate; refer to
