Replacing the Fuel Filter

DANGER

In certain conditions, gasoline is extremely
flammable and highly explosive. A fire or explosion
from gasoline can burn you and others and can
damage property.

Drain gasoline from the fuel tank when the
engine is cold. Do this outdoors in an open area.
Wipe up any gasoline that spills.

Never smoke when draining gasoline, and stay
away from an open flame or where a spark may
ignite the gasoline fumes.

1.

Remove the (5) screws securing the fuel pump cover to
the fuel tank and remove the cover (

6.

Remove the clamp securing the fuel filter hose to the
fuel pump fitting. Remove the hose from the fitting
(

Figure 52

).

7.

Insert the new hose clamp onto the new fuel filter hose.

8.

Insert the hose onto the fuel pump and secure the
clamp

9.

Insert the assembly into the fuel tank and tighten the
cap to 20 to 22 N-m (175 to 200 in-lb).

10.

Connect the wires and secure the hose with the hose
clamp.

Checking the Fuel Lines and
Connections

Check the fuel lines and connections every 400 hours or
yearly, whichever comes first. Inspect them for deterioration,
damage, or loose connections.

Fuel Pick-up Tube Screen

The fuel pick-up tube, located inside the fuel tank, is equipped
with a screen to help prevent debris from entering the fuel
system. Remove the fuel pick-up tube and clean screen as
required.
