13–00 Safety Precautions
Safety Precautions in this section apply to all
procedures within this group.
DANGER
When working on the vehicle, shut down the en-
gine or motor, set the parking brake, and chock
the tires. Before working under the vehicle, always
place jack stands under the frame rails to ensure
the vehicle cannot drop. Failure to follow these
steps could result in serious personal injury or
death.
13–01 Air Compressor
Inspection
1.
Inspect the air compressor intake hoses and
connections at the air intake and air compressor
for physical damage. If needed, change the
hoses, and/or tighten or replace the connections.
2.
Inspect the coolant supply and return lines for
tight connections. Tighten the connections and
replace the lines and fasteners if needed.
3.
For the air governor, inspect the piping and con-
nections for leaks. Replace gaskets and faulty
components as needed.
13–02 Air Compressor Filter
Replacement, Propane
Engine
1.
Loosen the spring clip from the unhinged side of
the mounting baffle and open the cover. See
2.
Remove the pleated paper filter.
3.
Install the new pleated paper filter and make cer-
tain it is correctly positioned.
IMPORTANT: If the entire air strainer is removed
from the compressor intake, replace the air
strainer gasket.
4.
Install the cover, then tighten the spring clip.
13–03 Air Compressor Oil
Separator Element and
Main Seal Replacement,
Electric Vehicle
1.
Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down
the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the
rear tires.
2.
Using a marker, draw a line on the top of the air
compressor housing sections. This will help align
the sections during reassembly. See
3.
Place a drain pan under the air compressor.
4.
Using a 17 mm wrench, remove the drain plug
and drain the compressor oil. See
. Using
a 7/8 inch (22 mm) wrench, loosen the fill plug to
allow the oil to drain faster. See
Check the oil for any sign of metal, water, debris,
or burnt odor.
5.
Using a 3/4 inch (19 mm) wrench, remove the
bracket bolt from the end cap, as shown in
6.
Using a 13 mm socket wrench, remove the two
bolts that attach the bracket to the lower com-
pressor frame. See
7.
Using a 10 mm Allen wrench, remove the end
cap plug. See
. Set the end cap plug and
seal aside for later use.
8.
Using a 4 mm Allen wrench, remove the end cap
bolts from the air-end of the compressor. See
9.
Remove the compressor end cap and the first
section of the separator housing. If needed, gen-
tly tap the end cap to loosen it for removal. See
and
10. Turn the filter element counterclockwise and re-
move it from the housing. See
11. Lubricate the O-ring on the filter with compressor
oil, then screw the filter in the housing clockwise.
See
. Tighten the filter hand-tight with a
rag.
12. Position and properly orient the first section of
