Advice on getting the best out of your slow cooker

•  Vegetables stew slowly, so therefore they have to be cut up into small or medium size pieces and
placed at the bottom of the cooking pot.
•  Do not fill the slow cooker’s cooking pot more than three quarters full.
•  Meats can be precooked, browned or grilled to get rid of as much fat as possible.
•

DO NOT USE FROZEN  MEAT.

•

DEFROST ALL MEATS BEFORE  COOKING THEM IN THE SLOW COOKER.

•  You can brown minced meat , like beef or turkey meat, before putting them in the slow cooker, in
order to remove the excess fat and so reduce the risk of food poisoning,.
•  Unplug the slow cooker when it is not in use or before cleaning it.
•  Always wear oven gloves when the slow cooker is hot and you wish to move it.
•  Always make sure the lid is on during cooking.
•  Use aromatic herbs that are fresh or dried rather than in powder form because they release their
  flavours better during slow cooking.
•  Fresh produce such as milk or cheese, must be added at the end of the cooking process, unless your
  recipe specifies otherwise.
•  Avoid sudden changes in temperatures. For example, do not add food which has just come out of
the freezer directly into the hot slow cooker .
•  Always place some form of protection under the cooking pot before placing it on a table or work
  surface.
•  Do not put anything under the appliance during the cooking  process.
•  Let your cooking pot cool down before you clean it in order to avoid sudden changes in temperature
  which might damage it.
•  Do not put the cooking pot close to an inflammable substance or object when it is hot.
•  Always use oven gloves when you need to open the lid -
