7.3 uSE THE ALTITuDE DIFFEREnCE
CALCuLATOR
Altimeter mode has a programmable altitude
difference calculator. This feature allows you
to easily measure the difference in altitude
from your current location relative to any
other point along your journey. (ie: the
altitude difference of the trail head parking lot
to the summit of a nearby peak)
Access the Altimeter Display
(See section 7.1 for
how to access the Altimeter display)

current altitude as a benchmark in measuring
the altitude difference until it is reset OR

Note: The altitude difference calculator is
not a measure of total ascent or descent
but strictly a net difference between the
altitude in which it was last cleared and
the current altitude.
Example: The altitude difference calculator
is cleared at the beginning of a long hike.
The altitude is 1000 ft. at the time the
calculator is cleared. Then you descend
into a canyon 500 ft., follow the stream
at the bottom for a mile and then ascend
out the canyon 2000 ft. Later you descend
another 1000 ft. to finish the hike. At this
point the altitude difference calculator will
read -500 ft. (the total difference between
the starting altitude=1000 ft. and current
altitude=500 ft.) even though you have
ascended 2000ft and descended 1500 ft.
