is normal. Move the mouse pointer to the computer or network icon in the notifica-
tion area and click on it. A small information window will popup, here you can click

Connect to a network .
Alternatively you can also open the Network and Sharing Center and select the task
Connect to a network .

This opens the Connect to a network window containing a list of all available
networks. If your network isn’t detected automatically, click the Refresh button on
the top right. This will perform a new search for available networks.
It is possible that there will be multiple networks in the list. This is quite common in
cities or residential areas. In this case, your neighbours also use a wireless LAN.
And this fact already reminds us how crucial security is when talking about wireless
networks.
Highlight your desired wireless network from the list. Next click the button Connect
at the bottom to proceed.

Each wireless network has a name or ID. The technical designation for this is
SSID . You already assigned it when you configured your router. Windows Vista
®
must know this ID before it can establish a connection.
Many routers do not broadcast the ID to improve the network security. Therefore, at
the beginning the network will be nameless or anonymous. In this case, Windows
will query the network ID. Enter the network name into the field and click
Next to
proceed.
