ISDN Mode
In ISDN mode, the ISDN ports are the
primary network interface and the X.21
port is the secondary network interface. If
there are no ISDN calls connected, the
audio will be routed to the X.21 port by
default.
X.21 Mode
When operating in X.21 mode, the C400xr
codec will only route audio to the X.21
port, and will effectively ignore the ISDN
ports. The ISDN ports will still be capable
of making and receiving ISDN calls, how-
ever the audio will not be routed through to
the ISDN connections.
ISDN Backup Mode - Master / Slave
In the X.21 with ISDN Backup mode, the
unit at one end of the X.21 line should be
configured as a Backup Master unit and
the other unit should be configured as a
Backup Slave unit. This prevents both
units initiating the ISDN Backup, which
can cause a call conflict. The automatic
ISDN Backup is initiated following 5
seconds of loss of synchronisation on the
X.21 line. The X.21 Restore occurs follow-
ing 10 seconds of continuous error free,
test data transmissions on the X.21 line.
The Backup and Restore time settings
can be modified from these factory de-
faults using the Backup Options menu.

TE: When operating in X.21 with ISDN Backup
mode, it is advised that the DCE should carry X.21
termination resistors, please contact Systembase
Limited or an authorised distributor for further
information.
Dial On Audio Mode
When operating in Dial On Audio mode,
the Left and Right Input audio channels
are monitored continuously for activity.
On detection of a signal which is above -
18dB, the unit will automatically dial the
pre-configured ISDN number for the
current patch. If the ISDN call fails to be
established for any reason, the unit will
automatically re-dial until it has success-
fully connected. Similarly, if the ISDN call
is terminated, other than by the unit
which initiated the call, a re-dial will be
activated automatically.
Once the ISDN call has been established
the Silence Timeout period is used to
determine when the call is terminated.
The Silence Timeout period can be set by
the user to a minimum of 1 minute and a
maximum of 8 minutes, in increments of 1
minute.
The ISDN call can also be manually termi-
nated by the unit which initiated the call,
using the
HANG
button.
NO
TE: When operating in Dial On Audio Mode the
LoopBack function is disabled and the VU Meters
are locked to monitor the input audio only. The
user can not change the VU Meter setting to
monitor the output audio. In addition the
C400xr will loop back the audio when no isdn
call is present.
Nailed Up Mode
The C400xr codec can be used over Nailed
Up ISDN lines, available in some countries
for fixed point-to-point digital transmis-
sions. The
DIAL
and
HANG
buttons are
not required in Nailed Up mode and are
therefore disabled. The audio format used
in nailed up mode is defined within the
ISDN OPTIONS menu.
